SONDE/ 12" OUT NOW!!!!!!!!

Percepts is pleased to announce the release of the debut 12" by French
dub artist /SONDE/. "FACE A/B" is /SONDE/'s first release and is a
vinyl only release in a limited edition of 500.

Get'em now while the dollar is low! Buyable at www.percepts.info, for 9.99USD plus shipping....

Listen at www.myspace.com/artistsonde

Based in the northern French city of Lille, /SONDE/ has been crafting
his sonic mythscience for several years now and has previously
appeared on the Dubzone compilation, and is part of the La Rushe
multimedia collective. His music draws a link from the roots reggae
practice of using dub as means of sonic cartography, to the modern
day deconstructions of minimal techno, exploring sound in its
substance and temporality.

"FACE A/B" is deep, textural exploration of these linkages. The A side
setting up the exoskeleton of skanking morphology and the B side
elaborating on the structure; allowing it to growing arms, legs, feet,
claws, and antennae and move across the ocean. Melodies and timbres
explode in the crucible of the echo chamber. A ghostly melodica figure
appears and disappears just as quickly, only to reappear in another
form a moment later, translated into a different tongue, in stuttering
counterpoint to the thundering bass weight. The rhythm doubles, then
triples, looks back and marches forward to zion. Truly a striking
debut from this new artist.

Antenne #3 reviewed on Losing today here's a taste:

Release Date: May 13, 2008

Thou had best be ready when the angry eelectric finger points to YOU! THUS
SPAKE NURSE (& Xhol): The recipe began with our fearless leader, Steve
Stapleton, cooking up some recordings & mixing in a few tablespoons of Xhol
Caravan. Beta-lactam Ring now serves up this piping hot dish to you, the
hungriest of hungry, hungry hippos. In addition, Chef Steve painted 100
individually hand painted discs to celebrate the release of the three album set “Angry

UN FESTÍN SAGITAL:

un festín sagital epatiafio a la permanencia

Artist: Un Festín Sagital
Title: Epitafio a la Permanencia
Catalogue #: mt124
UPC: 75390-71473-22
Label: Beta-lactam Ring Records (BlRR)
Release Date: June 15, 2008
Format: CD

Now all that is needed is for Dario Argento to step in and make a movie around this
album. At last, Rock In Opposition enters the 21st century, cuz FORGET POST ROCK!
But even though Un Festin Sagital’s name may be RIO, they are not dancing on the
sand. Like little Chilean Goblins, UFS pilot their fractured UFO into the cobwebbed
corners of the collective head heritage. They prefer to keep to themselves inside the
darkness on the edge of town, with their oddly timed opuses flickering like a forest of ill
begotten faeries waiting to capture anything that strays off the path. Their skittering,
rhythmic angina pays skewed homage to immortal RIO titans like Hellebore and Samla
Mammas Manna, but tends to spew forth with even darker hues, like those splattered by
Univers Zero, Art Zoyd and Legendary Pink Dots. UFS’s dedication to experimentation
and noise in between precision timed progressive coughs could almost cast them into
the same fiery pit currently occupied by many modern black and doom metal daemons.
A stalwart avoidance of jazz idioms further cements their psychedelic kick into the
cosmic eye and could sort of brand them as RIOORIO (Rock In Opposition Of Rock In
Opposition). Whatever genre classification best suits them, like a mighty horse they rock
the fat ass!

First USA release from this Chilean psych band.
Numbered editon of 500 copies.
A N. Amerian tour is planned for early 2008.
Full promotional press campaign to radio, webzines and magazines with planned
features.
This album will appeal to fans of La STPO, RIO, Goblin, Sonic Youth, Acid Mother’s
Temple, Frank Zappa, Art Zoyd, Univers Zero, Legendary Pink Dots, Volcano the Bear..

AKAI IKUO:

Language Without Words
Title: Language Without Words
Catalogue # mt153
UPC: 75390-71491-28
Label: Beta-lactam Ring Records (BlRR)
Release Date: June 12, 2008
Format: CD

Poppy red is the colour of Akai ’s cracked fusion. Their down-tempo psychtronica rises
and ripples like exhaust from a resin caked hookah. Registering on the Richter scale
somewhere between Squarepusher (Music Is Rotted One Note) and Terje Rypdal
(Odyssey) with little Thromboses of Seefeel, Deodato, Coil and The Orbcongealing
around the edges, Akai has an expansive sound, but leaves a lot of space, which keeps
the cool cool. Exotic percussions cut the strangely metered cocaine of jazz rhythms and
glitchy sequences with soothing, tropical diazapams that transform the frenetic beats into
hallucinations of quiet grandeur. The gamelan/steel drum-like din offers pleasing, almost
Lou Harrison moments that tweak into metamorphs of the third stream. This bitches brew
is spiked throughout with tinctures of guitar psychedelia and drams of electronic chirps
and whirs. And a subtly stumbling, matte finish bassline bubbles just beneath the
meniscus. A long, strange trip into a morphine drip.
Sales Points:
Akai Ikuo is a legend in the Tokyo music underground scene and known for being able
to play any instrument, anywhere, anytime. For this album, the multi-talented Akai played
over 40 different instruments.
Ed. of 300 numbered copies.
First album to be released outside of Japan.
This album will appeal to fans of Squarepusher (Music Is Rotted One Note) and Terje
Rypdal (Odyssey), Thromboses of Seefeel, Deodato, Coil and The Orb.

UW HYPOTHEEKADVIES:

Uw Hpotheekadvies Nature or Nurture

Artist: Uw Hypotheekadvies
Title: Nature or Nurture
Catalogue #: mt159
UPC: 75390-71535-21
Label: Beta-lactam Ring Records (BlRR)
Release Date: June 08, 2008
Format: CD

Ed. Of 400 numbered copies and features members from former BlRR band Girlfriends
and mastered by Erik Drost and Raymond Steeg(Legendary Pink Dots). According
to the Explosive Ordinance Field Guide: “Uw Hypotheekadvies should be handled with
great care as it is one of the most powerful EO’s, especially if detonated through
speakers in the comfort of one’s own home.” As trios go, UH sound more like a
thousand-tet. Imagine a heavily armoured Glenn Brancaguitar army falling DOWN an
UP escalator in such a way that they never reach the bottom and are forever tumbling
and crashing. Now throw DNAdown the same escalator and pour acid on that. UH don’t
just rock; they ROCK. Like agates gone wild, their abstract explorations come delivered
via sledgehammer and arrive on the plate as oddly conceived gemstones with insects
trapped inside. It smells like the teen spirits of Naked Cityand Laddio Bolockolurk
underneath UH’s woodpile, but despite the improv flavour of UH’s pummeling, they skew
away from jazz and lean in more towards prog than Zorn and Co. UH’s chaos fleshes
form and even descends into subtle soundscapes in between the rat-a-tat blastpatter. A
beautiful monstrosity of Nature and Nurture.
“Uw Hypotheekadvies (‘your mortgage advice’) is a noisy trio from Nijmegen, the
Netherlands. There is a drummer, a bass player and a guitar player. The band evolved
partly out of Girlfriends(which you can also buy at Beta-lactam Ring Records). Uw
Hypotheekadvies aims to have a fresh, open approach towards making music.
Influences are diverse like krautrock, no wave, Albert Ayler, Beefheart, Deerhoof, ethnic
field-recordings… The core of the music is interaction. Improvisation is a means but not
necessarily an end. This has resulted in their first official release ‘Nature of Nurture’
referring to an old, for these three guys, still relevant question. After this rigorous work,
they are occupied with making a new recording. Rumours say that this will turn out to be
a pleasant piece of pop music.” – Uw Hypotheekadvies

AIDAN BAKER (NADJA):

Aidan Baker Nadja Book of Nods
Title: Book Of Nods
Catalogue # mt163
UPC: 75390-71539-27
Label: Beta-lactam Ring Records (BlRR)
Release Date: June 10, 2008
Format: CD

A new landscape is painted out of darkness by progressive strokes of the dawn. The
finished piece is neither night nor day, but the transformation itself. Aidan Baker's (Nadja)
"Book Of Nods" crests experimental peaks in similarly paced sonic transmigrations. His
lustrous chimera blooms open in shifting onion layers built out of slow-moaning guitar,
flute, organ and drums. The resonant frequencies of quietly crashing nodes vibrate the
ozone with a sub-textural beating of multi-pianic feathers. Baker's prior metallic
inclinations lend in heaviness, adding a certain stylistic thud to Terry Riley-like territories,
and colouring portions almost as if they were middle passages in some sprawling prog
excursion. A soft eruption of synchronous sweet airs.

Solo release from the prolific Aidan Baker of Nadja.
First edition of 500 numbered copies.
Full promotional press campaign to magazines, webzines and galleries.
This album will appeal to fans of “doom”, “ambient doom” and ambient fields.

Release Date: June 13, 2008
Format: CD
Also available:
blur01 Ariel Kalma “Osmose” CD
Artist: Ariel Kalma

After a long journey to India in 1975, where Ariel Kalma learned the basics of modal
music and singing, he undertook his first solo recording for LP. Ariel was inspired by the
fusion of ancient and modern styles of playing music on saxophone, ethnic instruments,
effects, electric instruments and electronic filters. Making a record was expensive at the
time and after the first thousand records were pressed Ariel had run out of money, so he
bought blank sleeves and one-by-one drew the shape of his hand and numbered each
LP. This first pressing is now very rare and sought after!
Note from Ariel: The saxophone is powerful. It has raw sounds that are often filtered and
polished for easier listening. I like to let my saxophone sing and when I play I hear high-
pitched, teasing sounds that I like so much. They titillate my senses. If it is too sharp for
your ears, please adjust your EQ till you are comfortable.
Another detail making this LP memorable was Ariel convincing the pressing engineer to
loop the groove at the end of side 2 - thus creating an endless loop. This had not been
done before and, although it was casually mentioned on the cover, it caused great
surprise for many by sending listeners into a trance or on some occasions burning the
motor of a turntable after endless hours! Due to the diamond eroding the groove the LP
loop had the audio advantage of the loop sound changing as time passed, so on this CD
Ariel included a loop of several minutes. Three of the compositions originally on the LP
are found on this CD and two others created during that same time period have been
added as well.
Sales Points:
First time on CD for this classic French Avant-Prog album including two bonus tracks
recorded during the same sessions.
First edition of 500 copies in a deluxe book bound CD case.
Full promotional press campaign to magazines, webzines and radio.

ANAKRID:

Album Art

Title: Banishment Rituals of the Disenlightened
Catalogue #: mt199
UPC: 75390-71536-20
Label: Beta-lactam Ring Records (BlRR)
Release Date: June 10, 2008
Format: CD

Anakrid a day keeps the doctor slurred in a trove of fish-tallowed sling slong. This is what
it sounds like when doves cry because the mother ship crashes into their nest in the 6th
dimension. With this symphony of sickness comprised of scraped palpitations, pitched
whooshes, roaring cathodes and syncopated metallics, Anakrid have another
breakthrough chart topper on their bruised hands! These avant-garde hit-makers have
real crossover potential, combining the best, most dynamic experimental noise with the
very latest drones. This exciting NOW sound is OUT OF THIS WORLD! The long
awaited fusion of ritualistic tribalism with the tweaked electro-tech of ancient alien
cultures is finally here. Hey kids! If you love Nurse With Wound, Genocide Organ, Hafler
Trio, Muslimgauze, Pierre Henry, Nadja and Harry Bertoia and confusing your parents,
then you’ll want to get in on the Anakrid craze before it’s too late. They’ve got a whole
new way of kickin’ it old school. With electronics AND home-made instruments, Anakrid
CREATES an exploratory atmosphere WITHOUT all those boring, go-nowhere
improvisational hang-ups. Everything sounds fresh, progressive and weird!!! It’s just that
good. Let’s face it; outsider music has gotten plain boring. Anakrid is just the electrodes
to the testicles that left field music has been weeping for since, like, forever. Ex-punks
hang up their Mohawks and make good mayhem.
Anakrid is the experimental outlet of Chris Bickel (the raconteur behind In/Humanity, one
of the greatest groups of hardcore agitators of the ‘90s, and its follow-up, Guyana Punch
Line). After 10 years of releases as Anakrid and a large underground following, Bickel
decided it was time to start issuing larger edition releases.
This album will appeal to fans of Nurse With Wound, Genocide Organ, Hafler Trio,
Muslimgauze, Pierre Henry, Nadja and Harry Bertoia and the ambient doom crowd.

THE SILVERMAN:

the silverman blank for your own message

Title: Blank For Your Own Message
Catalogue # mt208
UPC: 75390-71532-24
Label: Beta-lactam Ring Records (BlRR)
Release Date: May 13, 2008
Format: CD

The Silverman should be given a degree in bio-melodics. This most recent body of
collaged constructions pulsates with aspects of a living system. Slurred drones rush
sonic corpuscles through electronic capillaries, imparting breath to each track. An
obscured, parenthetical heart beat occasionally comes through as an unexpectedly
metallic panging in the background, mostly drowned out by the fluid dynamics of
localized subsystems playing out their various vital functions. Perhaps each one of us
DOES sound a little like a Javanese gamelan orchestra inside if you hit the right spot.
Cutting to find out is not advocated. Silverman’s fantastic voyage sounds like a spiritual
dissertation on degrees of scale. The musical camera obscura sometimes finds
purchase on an atomic level, aurally zooming into the humming orbits of individual atoms
and even creeping up on the sounds of the electrons, protons and neutrons themselves.
With this beautifully ambient series of orchestral maneuvers in the dark, Silverman may
have found a tonal replacement for Gray’s Anatomy.

First edition of 500 copies in a deluxe book bound CD case.
The follow up album to the critically acclaimed “Nature Of Illusion”.
Founding and active member of The Legendary Pink Dots with a “rabid” fanbase.
Always on tour in Europe and soon N. America with the LPDots.

"Paste is a monthly, spectacularly written and conceived consumer print magazine with with international distribution in over 12 countries. Paste looks for what we call "Signs of Life in Music, Film & Culture" and shines our spotlight on them. This means the best of a wide variety of music, somewhat concentrated in what "the industry" calls adult-album-alternative (Triple A), Americana and indie rock. We also enjoy hip-hop, world, jazz, and even some books (hey, we can read more than rock journalism) and (mostly) independent films. Each issue is packaged with a full-length sampler CD (packed with at least 20 tracks, picked by our editors). Paste is about the artists, not about the artists' bodies. Recently Paste was both honored and humbled to be named #21 on the Chicago Tribune's '50 Best Magazines' list (right behind The New Yorker) and "Magazine of the Year" at the 2007 & 2006 PLUG Independent Music Awards."

Clearly this is a big deal! show some love for our Denver locals!

Bass Communion Reviewed on LMNOP
( side project of Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree)

Here is a clip:

This is an excellent example of why we continue to write about music. The person (or persons) who make up Bass Communion are creating from the school of thought that says sound is music. Note that this is very different from the idea that noise is music.......

Tim Millers "Adelaide" Reviewed on Musikreviews.com

Here is a clip:

Adelaide is a collection of meaningful, slow-medium folk rock songs. While listening to this album, you get the feeling that any of these songs could easily be in a soundtrack during the turning point of a film. Miller’s guitars and vocals blend together effortlessly while the organ and piano perfectly compliment the basic folk rock sound of the album......
